My sister's 2004 Civic D 1.7 had a fast leak out of the weep hole at the bottom of the lower timing cover and it appears I've found the issue. I used a seal puller and i don't think i used enough force to create that deep gouge. I believe that chip is on the oil pump? Should i go ahead and buy an oil pump or is there a decent way i can fill that surface (RTV?) and maintain a good seal. Any advice would be appreciated.
So the outer surface of where the crank seal makes contact is the snout? okay i saw you can use the speedy sleeves on the shaft but wasn't sure about the other surface.
The outer ring (that the seal slides into) is the oil pump and if you scratched it with your pick, you can always use a little permatex The Right Stuff on the scratch before installing the seal to fill the scratch and seal up the seal. The groove on the crank shaft snout though needs the speedi sleeve.
