Shift linkage possibly binding or clutch
Hi I have a 1995 Civic, today in the morning the car was shifting just fine without any problem. However when I got off work the shifter began to be pretty hard to put into gear, as i gotta force it into first gear second gear and so on. Clutch pedal goes in and out just fine, no weird noises when I press down into the clutch. The car can be a bit jumpy when shifting like the RPM jumps when in first gear if I let go of the clutch too quickly. I've been told the pressure plate could be going out or having problems and I figured I'll just replace the clutch set with a new clutch kit, but I've also been told it could be something is binding the shift linkage.
It sure sounds clutch related to me. The linkage normally doesn't have the potential for "binding" like you suggested since they don't touch each other... you would have to run over a large object or get in an accident to create problems like binding of the shift linkage. If you turn the car off and try shifting through the gears without depressing the clutch pedal... and it is smooth... it is NOT your linkage. If things get hard while the engine is running, you either have a clutch issue or a hydraulics issue.
