Transmission or Clutch Failure?
I can't shift my transmission, its completely locked up (in 2nd gear, or 3rd), it happened while I was driving. I can't move the shift to any shift points. If anyone has any experiance with this type of problem please post. When I start my car, the clutch needs to be pushed in ( which makes me think the clutch may be fine ), when I released the clutch, the tires started to slowly spin ( the car was on jackstands ), but also there was a funny noise like 2 pieces of metal rubbing eachother. On a side not: Can you shift from gear to gear if the clutch plate and the flywheel are not disengaged from eachother?
My best guess is that the collar somehow seized in the transmission gear. Is this a possibility? Anyone else got anything?

Sounds like either the linkage is bent or the shift mechanism in the trans is f'd. If the linkage is clear under the car and you still can't change gears, it's probably in the trans. Your clutch sounds fine.
Aside: Yes, you can, but there's no reason to unless your clutch is broken. It was covered on H-T a month or two ago.

not knowing too much about transmissions, but having a good sense in mechanical operations of vehicles (and knowing a little about how operation of a transmission works), do you think it would be a wise idea to open up the transmission to investigate? Only one way to learn right? And thanks for your reply, not one other member has helped me on this problem.
