Just picked up a 97 EK9 and need to repair the parcel shelf; it's in two pieces and I'd prefer it connected again. Any ideas on what fabric it is upholstered in? Ideas for adhesive? Ideas for how to make sure I get the right gap between pieces to not have it bind? I'm thinking I'll just re-cover the top over the old carpet (the cloth on it is really on there). I'll probably spray the adhesive, mount the wood pieces in car to get right gap, then place new upholstery on it. Let it dry. Remove then put another strip on the bottom overlapping the old strip so it bites onto clean wood. This will be first time doing any type of upholstery, so open to any suggestions. Even if the suggestion is to take it to a shop. Appreciate any tips.
I've gotten as far as pulling some of the fabric off. There was a mesh backing near where it splits, so I pulled there thinking it was going to be relatively easy, but after that it came off in small chunks. Infuriating. I'm going to hit it with a wire cup brush at some point in the hopes that it cleans it well enough to allow the adhesive to bite into the wood/cardboard material.
