Default How much does a block weigh

GSR

Im taking the head off the motor probably sometime soon and wanted to know if I needed a cherry picker to get the block out of the car (if i need to take it out) or if a few people could take care of it.

Also, if i were to jack the front end of the car up high enough, and lower the block via a jack...could i roll it out from under the car you think?

youd probably need a cherry picker unless you know some really buff guys with phenomonal grip.

i think you can rent them at lowes, not sure though.

I've seen a guy pull out a b20 by himself, but I definitely recommend a hoist of some type.

I've done it this way before.. Unbolt everything, keep the car off the ground by just a few inches and slowly drop the motor down. The only problem is it takes a pretty descent size jack to get the car high enough to get the motor out..... This is the way i normally do it.. I don't have an equalizer on the lift so I hook up the motor level on the chain, lower it down to the ground then reattach the chain closer to the timing belt side of the motor so that the tranny side dips down then i just pull it straight out the top.... Good luck

If you're just moving it from point A to point B, I say just do it yourself. But if you're planning to pick it out of a car or put it into a car, get a cherry picker. I don't know much about quality of cherry pickers, but you could get Cherry Picker + Engine Stand for $270 shipped on eBay.
