Default Bent valves?

How easy is it to bend valves by hand turning the crank?

I was turning my crank after putting the girdle back on and I came to a little resistance. I turned past it by hand turning the pulley and now there is no resistance.

In hind sight, I am worried I pushed a piston through the valves on one of the cylinders, everything was set to TDC prior to the timing belt coming off. I didn't put a lot into turning past the resistance but I'm still concerned.

And is there a way to tell without pulling the head?

You would have to be a bad man to bend valves by hand... and a "little resistance" isn't enough effort to cause bending of metal. I think you are good man.

Its extremely hard(close to impossible) to bend the valves by hand.

@TomCat39 what happened with this? Did the motor run good? Did it ever fail from valves?

To be honest, I don't remember which motor that was. If the slight bit of memory I have, I am running the motor now if I'm not mistaken. The one person saying one would have to be incredibly strong to bend valves by hand turning the motor is probably quite correct. The resistance I had more than likely was valve spring resistance and my naivety and paranoia got me.

I am surprised you were able to finish turning it over. I have some info in my thread I made today about how I thought I had bent some valves, and when i tried to spin the engine when it got stuck i put all my weight intovthe braker bar on the crank bolt, and it didnt spin at all. I like to think about cars with physics in mind and I don't think the angle on the valve would make it easy to compress the spring and move the valve, maybe im thinking this because of how my engine got totally jammed up and wouldn't spin further

Yeah, mine wasn't jammed, just had a bit of resistance for a moment. I didn't have to give it a massive reef at all to get past the resistance. It's another reason I think I was just paranoid at the time as it was still fairly new to me then and that was one of my first real tear down and put back togethers. I've done it a few times since and don't think about it as much.
