H22a vs h22a4
Hi guys. I have a question so I have a h22a4 from a 01 prelude base model and I have or will get for a cheap price a h22a not sure what year it came from. But I want to know which one is better for a 700hp turbo build both will be sleeved. So my question is which one is better after they are sleeved. I know that one is obd1 and obd2. Also it will be dropped in a 2001 prelude.
thanks

Compare the crank shaft main journals. It is likely that the JDM H22A has 50mm journals and the H22A4 will have larger/stronger 55mm main journals. So, since you are sleeving the block and you intend to replace the rods and pistons, I suggest you use the H22A4. If the JDM H22A is a 1998+ engine, it will have the same size crankshaft main journals and it wouldn't make any difference which block you choose.
Im nearly in the same situation. I have 2 preludes. My daily 2000 H22A4 that is currently melted piston and damaged cylinder wall. And a 1998 with a H23A swap on nitrous, and is low on compression i assume a head gasket but dont know until i pull the head......so i cant decide which motor setup to do. 1 option is to have my H22A4 bored a little bit to fix the cylinder wall and sleeve it but i dont know if its worth it mainly because its an open deck. Option 2 is since i have to pull the head on my H23A, should i get mahle pistons and not sleeve it and build the head...or sleeve it and build it?? Another idea is to just fix my head gasket on my H23A and find another H22A block to sleeve and build. My question is would my H23A hold aboit 500HP without sleeves and the mahle gold pistons and forged rods and springs and retainers?
First thing first would be to actually determine what the issue is with the H23A, i.e. do a leakdown test and see where you are losing compression.
To successfully run the Mahle golds, you need to properly prep/ hone the frm walls to spec, so compared to having iron sleeves installed for forged pistons, you are not looking at too much of a difference in the end. Both of those blocks should be 55mm main and open deck though, so not really the same comparison as H22A to H22a4.

I have a h22a I'm working on 90mm bore, 105mm stroke. Crower crank and rods cp pistons, golden eagle sleeves, acl bearings. The head has stage 2 skunk2 cams and cam gears, titanium valves and springs so its coming along. The body: CF hood, trunk, side skirts and rear lip. Recaro seats half sparco cage, skunk2 suspension, maegan subframe stabilizer bars and a real mugen fron bumper that I picked up that I'm going to repair.
