2004 civic crank no start, stuck in park brake lights come on

Default 2004 civic crank no start, stuck in park brake lights come on

Hey everyone, I’m new here and I’m sorry to just jump right into the technical forums but I’m not new to forums or new to Hondas (and I lurked for a while before registering)


So previously I had a 4 door 99 civic. I bought it for cheap and had the stock d16 on like 8-10psi and loved that car but it had some real rust problems so I got rid of it. Shortly after my buddy sold me a 2004 4 door A/T for cheap because he couldn’t get it to start


Turns out the issue was the 15amp fuse #1 under the dash was loose, initially I shimmed it but ultimately the contacts loosened again and it stopped starting (again) but also occasionally when it wouldn’t start it would lock me in park. Brake lights turn on but there’s no click from the shift assembly and the lever on the gear selector doesn’t free up for me to switch out of park

I put a junkyard fuse box in the car and it fired right up, I’ve checked as much as I can in the fuse box it seems to function perfectly well. It was in really good condition when I pulled it.


However now I have an occasional crank no start problem with the car with the same symptoms listed above. I searched pretty hard for a forum with similar symptoms and if there’s one out there I didn’t find I sincerely apologize.

It’s not acting like the brake switch as I’ve read about previously - as the lights still function

it still allows me to take the key out so long as it’s in park. However when the shifter isn’t locked it allows me to remove the key in drive.

The “P” indicator on the dash lights up and the light follows as I shift. I haven’t checked the range selector yet but it’s not high on my suspect list

When I stick a key in the manual shifter release and put the car into neutral it still will crank without starting

There is a check engine light on, my new diagnostic tool arrives in the mail today (a friend ran off with my old one after borrowing it) I’ll update with whatever DTCs the car gives me


Im sorry for the long post and crazy list of symptoms, Deep apologies if I somehow violated this forums etiquette, I appreciate any and all help. I’m pretty tired of being stranded with a crank no start condition, I’m about ready to go start applying for auto loans lol.
