Confirmed that it is the notorious engine block crack over by the alternator that starts leaking water.
It's long out of warranty for getting the block replaced so I removed the exhaust and thermostat housing+water tube to expose the crack.
There is a small pocket by the freeze plug that is leaking so It doesn't look like I'll have enough room to get a welder in there.
Assuming I'm going to have to resort to JB weld.
Anyone having long term success with this method?
I am hoping to get a year or two out of it.
I think most people just get the 08-11 block and hope for the best with any replacement. I have an 07 dx with 137k that's been sitting for a year and a half waiting for me to swap in an engine.
I gave the JB weld a try and it has slowed the leak.somehow it's still getting past the JB Weld so I'm going to add more.
Thinking I will have to replace the block eventually, but I would like to get some more miles out of this engine if I can. It is running very well other than the leak.
So I finally got around to taking a look at my situation. I've got a tiny hole on the back of the block under the breather cover. Cooling system basically emptying itself into the oil pan.
Luckily I found out the block I pulled from the junkyard was actually a 2010 engine while I was swapping parts over from the original so it should be good to go. More than twice the mileage on the odometer when I pulled it but as long as it runs who cares at this point.
