Default 96 Honda Civic ex coupe automatic

I was curious to look under the hood and see the motor that google says comes with the car that I bought but when I did I was surprised to see it had a D15b vtech is that normal It say that those motor came from a 98 crx or something like that just want to get some clarification on this. Just wondering if the did a motor swap or is this normal thanks in advance.

Sounds like the original USDM D16Y8 was replaced with a JDM VTEC D15B.

There are two different VTEC D15B engines - high fuel efficiency and performance. Which do you have? What ECU is installed?

D15b is stamp code for the block, meaning some ine replaced the 1.6 motor you had with a 1.5 motor

Its a downgrade in performance, but an upgrade because it probably has lower mileage on the engine

There were atleast 4 different versions of the d15b. Carbed, non vtec, vtec, and dual vtec. For whatever reason Japan would just stamp the block casting and not designate one engine variation from another. Most likely just to mass produce the short block and assign a cylinder head later in the process.

So I found out it was a a Frankenstein motor with a 2000 ex transmission with a 96 block and a 98 head vtech
