I have developed what seems to be a slow transmission fluid leak on my 1996 honda civic DX.
It seems to be leaking around the transmission shift cable boot where it enters into the transmission.
My questions are:
-I'm assuming the gasket/boot for the shift cable has worn causing the leak??
-Does the fluid need to be drained in order to remove the bracket that the cable looks to be held in place by?
-Does the entire cable need replacing or can just the boot/seal be replaced?
-Does the fluid need to be drained in order to remove the bracket that the cable looks to be held in place by? No. The "bracket" only holds the end of the cable sleeve in place. It won't be leaking from there though. Remove the bolt holding the bracket in place and you'll see that the inner part of the cable connects to a small arm via a pin/cotter pin, and the shaft of that arm is what enters the transmission case.
