Strange Starter Sound
Hi all,
I have a 94 Accord ex A/T that has this intermittent sound when cranking the engine. It is a very loud screeching sound while cranking the engine (not a squeal sound, it's not a belt slipping). It doesn't do it all the time, and it doesn't do it every revolution.
(crank crank crank screech crank screech start - random each time) I installed a new starter not too long ago trying to fix this issue. It did fix it for a couple weeks but now it's back. I also cleaned and reassembled the ignition switch with no luck.
Electrical connections are clean, but I'm not sure about engine ground. I didn't see any signs of teeth grinding when I replaced the starter. Flexplate seems fine, but then again I didn't remove the transmission.
Could it be the main relay or the engine stumbling as it starts? I'm a bit puzzled.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
CZM

Could be an issue with torque converter I believe?

I'd suggest removing the the lower cover on the TC housing and and inspect the teeth on the TC for any wear or damaged teeth.
It could be that the starter was accidentally engaged while the engine was running and possibly damaged some teeth or even knocked the ring gear out of alignment.
With the engine running, and in drive. Hold the brake and gently give a bit of throttle. Just 'lean' on the converter for a few seconds. Does the same noise occur?
