Default metal grinding when trying to start

Finally got my rebuilt h in and after all the headaches and confusion, i thought i was good. When i go to crank the engine, there is a metal grinding noise thats coming from the crank pulley side. cant located where the sound is coming from. Any help or suggestions?

Does the car actually start though? that sounds like a bad starter to me if it does not start at all.

nope it just cranks. haven't really held it longer than 5 secs. the starter is brand new btw. plus it sounds like its coming from the pulley side.
