D16Z6 to d16y8 swap problems!!??
Hey everybody, I currently have a 1993 Honda del sol with a 5-speed d16y8 that I swapped into it. It previously had a automatic D16Z6, and I’m having some troubles with it.. I read some forums about the swap, and that I needed to swap the z6’s intake manifold and fuel system onto the y8, and I did so I could keep the old harness and ecu, but now I’m having some trouble it’s starts up fine, and misfires a bit, I think I have the timing correct, but when I go and put it in 1st gear and go to accelerate it almost dies on me when I let the clutch out, then slowly gets up to speed and rpms. And shifts to 2nd fine, then when I go to put it in 3rd gear, it’s like I’m in VTEC. If anybody has any ideas on why this is happening please comment!!?!?!?
check your electrical plugs to make sure they are not going to the wrong component on the intake, there a couple of plugs that look very similar, for example the IACV and IAT or map don't recall right now. The only time I have had a car run really bad and die at times turned out to be the ecu. I was using an automatic p28 instead of 5 speed manual p28(had gone bad on me) It ran fine till months later when it started running like poo. One more thing I would check would be the TPS.

i have the auto ecu in it, and I also have the manual ecu With the harness I can put in it if needed. But I’m still using the same harness from the D16Z6 if that matters?
Why are you using the auto ecu when you put a manual trans in? Put the manual ecu in and see if that helps. Why would you want to keep the old harness and ecu anyway if you got a complete d16y8 5 speed swap with harness and ecu you could have just used the y8 harness
at the time I didn’t have a fuse box for it, but I will grab one from junkyard this weekend if available, to see if it changes the problem.
what fuse box? There is no need to change any fuse box going from the z6 to y8. The del sols have the same fuse boxes for all the years. The y8 should have been a complete drop in swap. All you need is the auto to manual transmission mount, clutch lines, master, pedals
that’s what I’ve done, but now when I go to let the clutch out and start to accelerate, it almost dies, and I don’t know if it’s because I’m still running the automatic ecu or what?!? I’m very lost as of now on what could be causing it
