Default Lost Key on Project car - Worth keeping?

Hey Everyone,

I bought a project car a few years ago and then went back to school and it sat at my dad's for years. Now back to place where I have more disposable income, can build it, and I would like to make it something I can drive around but I have lost the key.

The car is a 1990 Acura Integra LS db1 (4-door) sedan. Needs some body work, and paint but mostly a straight body. The interior is super clean and that's one reason I like it.

Has a b18a1 that I've put a new fuel tank on($100), new distributor($70) and some plugs. That about it. I would love to get this up and going again but not sure if it's worth it if i cant find the key.

Is this thing a beater and I should just move on if I cant find the key? What are you thoughts on trying to keep it if I cant find the key?

Any feedback is welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Also I have a 1998 civic em1 I'm trying to get rid of because it has some quarter panel damage and a HG leak and I wont ever get to it if I decide to keep the Acura, so that's why I'm also debating getting rid of the Acura db1 and keeping the em1 so I can do that stuff. Or just both. Are either worth trying to get back and going? Which ever is kept, would be rebuilt to be a clean daily.

Or get rid of both and start from scratch with something else??lol

Take the title/registration/ID to the dealer and have them cut you a new key.

Nice! I didn't know that was an option. Well I'm going to look into doing that this week then.

I still need to get the car put in my name. Still in the original owners name.

What do you think of these 4-door integra's?

If is likely that the key coding information for a chassis that old is no longer available... but it is worth a try.

Haha! I was worried of that but staying hopeful.

If I can't get a new key, this car is going to Cars 4 Kids! Or straight to pick your part lol!

Especially if they can't do it if the cars not even registered to me right now. I have the pink in hand but still in the original owners name.

Thanks for the feedback!

If the car had never had ignition switched then do above said go to Acura with registration and I’d and they’ll cut you a new key. you must Register the car to your name first though

how you can check is take off the steering column cover
if 2 bolts holding ignition has 2 screws that Look like this it’s Oem to the vin more than likely and cutting new key from Honda probably 10-15 bucks.

1-check body for cracks subframe damage and weak spots and rust and severity in chassis
2-price out parts and labor if you need outside work done
3-make friends at local shops sometimes they sponsor cars and you can get work done at cost if you promote them at car shows ETC.
4-pick a timeframe for how long you want to do this build
5-key ingredient make sure you are enjoying the project once you start getting frustrated its not worth the aggravation
(learned from past projects gone wrong)
