Default Vtec Del Sol won’t stay started/start

I posted a little while ago about a B16a3 in a 95 del sol a few weeks ago. I have not made any progress. However, I’ve realized the car will start on the first crank but it dies after half a second. After that initial try the car will only crank. If you leave it be for a few hours/days the car will do that whole process again. We quadruple checked all the connections, replaced plugs, wires, and now the whole distributor and the problem still occurs.

we rebuilt the motor during the summer and once it was done we started the car and it started but idled really low and wanted to die so we shut it off and have had this problem ever since. Before the motor was rebuilt we were having issues with the Iacv but didn’t think it would cause this condition.

we have checked for spark, it’s good. Compression is good, fuel pressure is good. Tripled checked timing it’s good, distributor isn’t 180 out, triple checked it. Any more ideas? I really appreciate anything!

Im gonna try that. I have another Del sol I’ll snag it from and try it out. We know the injectors are putting out fuel so we didn’t really think about that relay.

Rebuilt it back to stock with stock ecu?

or rebuilt it with upgraded pistons and stock ecu?

could be as simple as IACV and thermostat housing sensor switched.... that’s what happened to mine. I would have to hold the gas till warmed up and idle normal. But cold start would just crank, so found out my sensor was switched and switched it over and starts right up.

Everything was put together stock except a cold air intake and new headers. Ecu is still stock.
before the rebuild my iacv was going bad but it never kept the car from starting so we haven’t thought it would cause this condition.
We also figured all the wires must be right since we got it to start the first time and since it starts for like half a second now.
thank you for the idea, I’ll have to see if there is room to play with things.

Having any luck? I’m having the same problem. Weak start then dies then just cranks. Running out of ideas!
