Default B16B engine to EG Hatch

Hello! Could anyone give me some advise? I am building rally car from EG5 (d16z6)OBD1 and want to replace the engine with B16B from 1999 so it should be OBD2B. I have the engine, gear box, d-shafts, original engine wire loom, ECU, most of the engine mounts, gear linkage. My problem is that the technical regulations in this rally class do not allow chipping the ECU.( If it would be allowed I would go for OBD1 + chip, change the plugs for injectors, dizi etc.) But since the technical regulations tells original ECU must be used, I wonder how I can get the wiring working. Is there possibility to use and extend the b16b wiring loom and somehow connect the OBD1 dash harness to OBD2B engine harness dash plug? Has someone made that conversion? All the help is appreciated!

That plan for wiring is WAY too much trouble... keep the D16Z6 engine harness and modify it to fit the new JDM B16B. The B16A ECU (P30) isn't really right for your engine... it is programmed for the B16A short deck block/mild camshaft combination and is rated for 25 LESS HP than your engine. I think it is better to get an OBD-1 -> OBD-2A/B (depending on the ECU you get) and a JDM B16B ECU (PCT I think). Making sure it is JDM will eliminate the emissions related issues that your car will lack over a USDM '96+ OBD-2 type system.

Thanks for your input JRCivic1! I already have the JDM B16B PCT ECU- I got it with the swap kit. So I can take the plugs from my original B16B harness, put them to D16Z6 harness. Buy OBD1 to OBD2B jumper. In this case is the Knock Sensor wire the only one I have to add or is there more of them? Thanks!!!

Yes, the Knock sensor is the only additional wire that will need to be run.

Hello JRCivic1. Just wanted to let you know. I did as you said- used d16z6 engine loom to run b16b. Changed plugs-injectors, alternator, dizzi, made some wires longer, added knock sensor wire and connected it to VTEC oil pressure wire from d16 harness, took the VTEC oil pressure pin from ECU plug and placed it where the knock sensor has to be, doing so I had to add only 40cm of wire and were able to use original wire loom. On the ECU side I used conversion harness to be able to use OBD2a PCT ECU. Doing double conversion from obd2a engine to OBD1 wire loom to OBD2a ECU I was sceptic if the fault codes etc will work correctly but they do. All works fine. Thanks again! Risto

You made him change the entire car to obd2b when all he had to do was locate a jdm eg sir ecu. Absolutely ridiculous.

No Chris... he has a B16B engine, not a B16A. The combination you are suggesting isn't correct... in fact, it doesn't even work as good as using a B18B ECU on a B20B/Z swap. Doing things the RIGHT way is almost always more difficult than the wrong way, but the pay-off is worth it.

And for the record, all he changed were the ECU plugs to that of the OBD-2B "TYPE" and some plug changes on his engine harness, not the entire car. JDM ECU's do not recognize the USDM emissions requirements so no other hard parts needed to be switched out... like the fuel tank or charcoal canister.
