Icon5 trans swap for taller overdrive 2000 Civic Si

Hi all - I would like to know if there is a transmission that will fit in my 2000 Civic Si, B16, 5 speed that has a taller overdrive (meaning lower numerical gear ratio - higher car speed at same rpm)? Was told an Acura trans is like this, but have not run across any charts, etc. giving this information - any input?

Install an LS 5th gear from a 92-01 Integra LS trans.

Yes, the '04-01 Integra LS 5th gear set is a drop in swap inside the S4C ('99-00 Civic Si) transmission. It will drop the engine speed by 1000 RPM at 80 mph.

and through the entire engine's torque multiplier out the window. I did this 5th gear change on my EM1 and instantly regretted it. use a GSR 5th instead.

If you're interested in the thread I gave feedback on this change the year I performed this abomination, leu me know

The standard B16A2 has no torque... so I could see how this could be an issue. The GSR 5th gear set could be a good compromise between the stock 5th gear pair and the LS 5th gear pair... or just add a bunch more displacement or HP and the tall LS 5th gear pair will work just fine.

I hear you.. Even with my G"LS"R build that 5th great was useless even on the highway, and the GS-R 5th was a better overall use, I still wouldn't use it.

Torque multiplyer concept is still applied even in the torqueless wonder B16A2. But going into that takes this thread off course.

I recall someone changing out the final drive on the b16 with a LS.

I want to say I'm still getting 29mpg in my si. If it was 24 or something I could reason a swap. But the si just drives like a motor cycle

Yeah, swapping in a different 5th has never appealed to me either. I've got a (single cam) Si transmission in my EF Sedan and still get about 30 mpg every tank, and the high RPMs don't really bother me...just crank up the music, haha.

That sounds about right in the real world. I was gettin somewhere near that with a b20 utilizing the b16 transmission.

Hey, thanks for input. Went with a little bit taller tires, made a nice change to audible taching out factor, but was noticeable how it did kill off the bottom end. The car seems to love churning away at 4000 rpm, I just get tired of listening to it. Less invasive than swapping gears or trans, cool you guys know how to do that - thanks - Cody

Also, I am new to this website - I put an add in the classified section, but it is not there today. It might have been taken down because I did not have a card with the required info in the photos with the cars, not sure. Any input? seemed like they posted no problem. A guy welcomed me as a new member, seemed to be the web sight guy, now I can't figure out how to contact him.

This. I put an LS 5th in my GSR trans with the B20z and have never been super happy with it. Ruins the nice even gear spacing, and the stock 5th was just so useful even around town. It didn’t make a measurable dent in fuel economy, but it did decrease cabin noise a bit with the lower cruise rpm. On that note, it also moved that “sweet spot” where everything gets nice and quiet and efficient up a few mph to a place where I’m definitely getting a ticket if I get caught. It was all tolerable when I lived in FL, but now that I’m out in the mountains I can’t wait for my next opportunity to drop the trans and swap back to stock.

Note that hat all of these issues will be even more noticeable with your shorter geared trans and your higher revving, less torquey b16

Mountains? best get torquey. Austin has some nice roads but you still have to be careful or you'll end up off the road.
