Fried Multiplex Control Unit?
1998 Honda Accord EX - I was installing a brighter, LED bulb in my dome light housing and apparently blew a fuse. Replaced the blown 7.5 amp fuse that blew on the passenger side fuse box but noticed that now my dome light stays on constantly (however quite dim) and the gauge cluster/climate controls/clock/factory stereo/power window buttons backlight are all dark when I turn on the headlights. Gauges work, windows work, all exterior lighting works etc .. but basically everything inside that can be dimmed is dark.
I made sure to check every single fuse in the vehicle and all are good. After a bit of research online it seems everything going on suggests a fried multiplex control unit on the drivers side.. 'apparently' a common problem for these vehicles and at one point was cause for a recall in 2004?
With all that said, are those units expensive new and are the easy or difficult to remove/replace? They seem to be under $100 on eBay. Is it wise to do the bypass trick long term?
And yes - I did check other threads before posting but nobody seemed to have a clear solution or post what worked for them in the long run.
Any info appreciated to save money and avoid causing further damage.

Hello and welcome to Honda Tech, please be patient, it's just after the Easter Weekend Holiday and some of the master techs that reply to problems are either still on vacation or have other obligations to take care of.
I will offer one observation, it is possible that the LED you are using is not the proper type for your older Honda electrical system
LEDs require special resistors in line to be compatible with older electrical systems in most cases and not all these LED bulbs have the proper resistors installed.
One other observsation....I know it's not likely but you COULD have a defective fuse. Try using another one make sure you remove and insert the new fuse to help clean possibly corroded contacts on the fuse block.
Have you removed the LED bulb and replaced it with the original incandescent bulb? Replace any LED bulb with the proper spec incandescent bulbs...did that resolve your problem?

Did you ever figure this out? I literally did the same thing except all my other lights work as they should still only my dome light stays on when on "door" setting now. I think it may be passenger multiplex control unit as well.
