Default DSMinime???

Sorry about the possibly misleading title...ok let's get to this. So I'm a Mitsubishi guy through and through, I have a...ahh that's not important. Anyway I ran across a good deal on a 99 civic Ex sedan with a obd1 mini me swap. Only to find out it had a blown head gasket. The block code is d15b with no number after the b which makes it if I'm not mistaken a JDM block, and a y8 head that when I did the head gasket I changed out for a z6 head I had that I know was good. Along with a z6 head gasket and timing belt.

Not sure what ecu was in it because the sticker was missing but the board was a 1720 that had been converted to vtec and been chipped. However it would not run with that ecu. So my buddy gave me his old ecu, a p05 that had been converted to vtec. And of course a jumper harness.

Ok so after hours of trying to get the timing right, because I thought the deck height was different on the d15b, I come across a post saying the JDM d15 have the same deck height as the d16. So I set the timing as you would a stock d16 and viola starts right up....here's where the "fun" begins.

I take it out and it runs fine until the cel comes on and it starts stumbling from 1.5k to 3k rpms almost like fuel cut in a turbo car(Mitsubishi guy). After that it pulled normally but also didn't cross vtec. I get back and jump the diagnostic plug and it's throws code 21 and 41. Vtec pressure and heated oxygen sensor(I don't have an o2 sensor hooked up). I was told you don't need an o2 sensor it will just throw a cel. I'm not sure about the vtec solenoid. The vtec wires had been cut on the original harness so I had to wire them up myself. Thinking they could be backwards I switched the wires on the 2 wire harness. I start the car up go to pull off and the car dies. Try to start it back up and it won't fire. Turns over fine but won't start. No new codes either. I've yet to check for spark because it's currently thundering and lighting outside. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Btw I'm fairly new to Honda's and brand new to this sight so take it easy on me.

No.... you need an O2 sensor on fuel injected cars

I know you swapped heads, did you check the block to be sure the oil jet was removed from the bock? If the JDM block was for the non vtec flavor it would likely have an oil jet in the block like the B2 and B7 blocks and with the Z6/Y8 heads, it's my understanding it's in the heads. With two jets, you restrict oil too much and vtec won't engage. It's why the jet is removed from the block on mini-me builds.

the D15B is JDM with VTEC isn't it? it shouldn't have an oil jet right?

D15B JDM is up to 4 different motors, if I recall its vtec, non vtec, carb and 3 stage dual vtec/vtec-e.

In Japan instead of differentiating the flavor with a block code it's done by VIN.

Huh, Thanks for the info. I just figured they were all VTEC.

Bah, I'm more of an ******* on those forums than this one.

I dont mess with modifications. Hes talking gibberish, I know nothing of bastard swaps or ecu's. Not worth my time researching modification for my car making 100whp.

I'll say this, comparing the two cars, the honda d-series is the small block v8 of the modern motors. Do your research, everything has been done before. Everything is in the web, just search

D15 blocks are 207mm, D16 are 212mm. Not the same, will need to compensate for the timing difference.

You swapped heads, did you use the matching cam shaft and cam gear to the new head? Mix and match? This will make a difference.

Oil jet in block as TomCat mentioned.

Needs O2 sensor to run properly, otherwise I believe the ECU defaults to a rich condition.
