Default Overheating

Hey guys i have a 99 00 civic and i dont think it matters but its a gsr swap(unknown miles) body is at 116k . My problem is that if the car idles for too long it overheats well the thermo goes high like 3/4 high . But when i drive it the thermo goes back to normal . Any ideas ? I figured it might be the fan but i put a switch on it to make sure it turns on and it does but nothing changed . Bad thermostat ?

How long is it idling for before it starts to overheat?

Do yo fan come on?
Do it blow for very long?
Can you hear it sucking wind
While you sip a little gin?
Do the blades spin round
As you see them, looking down?
Do ya fan come on?

(sing it to the tune of do your ears hang low)

Could be a bad gauge. Had a customer with that problem recently. He had already installed a new temp sender, but still had problems. Scanner said it was under 200°, but the gauge was redlining. Swapped with a known good gauge, and no more problem.
