Does anyone know for sure if fuel pumps from ej and eg are interchangable? I have an almost new fuel pump in a 92 ex parts car and the fuel pump in my 98 ex just started to go on me this morning. Advance Auto shows different part numbers for the 2, but doesn't mean it won't work. They look identical from pics online. Would be great if I could just swap them out. Thanks!

 

If the part numbers are different then they're different. Simple as that.

 

Well, part numbers for a z6 dizzy and a y8 dizzy are way different, but I can make them interchangeable. I don't have Mula to buy a fuel pump atm, my car is a beater anyway. I really just don't want to be left on the side of the road. Part numbers don't mean crap. Knowledge of the part itself is a whole different thing and I just need to know of I can MAKE it work.

 

I found a pump on eBay for a 92-00 Civic, so this gets my hopes up a little bit. Lol. May just go home this evening and give it a shot.

 

Oh for heaven's sake... they are interchangeable. The flow rates may be different depending on the trim level, but dimensionally, they will work in all '92-00 Civic's. It's simply logical.

 

In my 28 short years on this planet, I've found many things to be logical, but not true. I mean you would think a 94 ex and a 97 ex would have the same front brake calipers, but no. Thanks for the answer though, I'll prob swap fuel pumps tonight.

 

The part numbers are different because the fuel pump bracket designs are slightly different. The '92-95 style pump has a banjo bolt style output port on the top of the fuel pump assembly bracket. The '96+ style has a slip O-ring/clip style output port. So to be clear, you can interchange the fuel pumps... and the variance will only be the flow differences, but the fuel pump bracket assemblies are unique to the 5G and 6G Civic chassis.

 

Ok, so basically it's just a matter of putting the pump from the 92 on my 98 bracket? Was going to dig into it tonight but moon roof quit working and wound up fixing it instead. That and the fuel pump isn't completely dead yet, just has been backfiring and getting worse. Plus it takes maybe an extra turn over or two to start the car. I'm 95% positive it's the fuel pump, being these symptoms and slowly getting worse, and the fact I've ran the car low on gas a whole lot. I knew eventually I'd end up siezing up the pump. Just hope I get it changed before it leaves me sitting somewhere. Lol. Thanks for the info.
