Default 16Y7 1.6L Engine

I bought a Pure Stock asphalt oval car, it`s a 2000 Honda Civic Si and has the 16y7 1.6L engine. From what i have read this is not the engine that comes in this car for this year, the y8 is the engine that came with the car, is this correct info or am i wrong?. I had the car out twice at the end of last year and it would hit the rev limiter at 5,500rpms. Not knowing anything about Honda`s and just the basic`s about cars, in general, i was lost. i did some searching and that's when i found out the y8 came in this car. The ECU that is in it is a y8 and the engine a y7. I`m guessing that is my problem.
Also from what i have read this engine only puts out 106 hp (i think). There is an oil leak that i believe is coming from the main seal. My question is, what would it cost for a bigger (hp) engine (approx) and would it be worth it?, the tracks I`m running at are 1/3 mile ovals.

Thanks

The ECU from the car.

Si models in Canada came with a D16y8. It looks like somebody blew it up and replaced the block and head with a y7 but left the y8 intake/exhaust manifolds, ecu, etc...you probably have CEL codes and you are hitting a 5500rpm limit due to the CELs.

swap in a b20 with a b16 transmission. b20's are torquey little engines, and most importantly only cost 4-500 when you blow them up. the b16 transmission is short geared, good for the small tracks you're running. i run the same setup in my road track car, but with a modified b16 transmission.

The engine and tranny have to be for a 1999 or 2000 Civic, it`s the Pure Stock division, no mods allowed.

Anywhere from $100-800 depending on condition and whether or not it has LSD. Just gotta hunt for a deal.

We had it hooked up and the only CELs was an o2 sensor. Would replacing the CPU make things better or should i look for a y8 block and head?....forget that question, what would be the best way to fix this?

If you change it to a P2E it'll be the correct ECU for the motor. Currently the car is in limp mode, but an O2 sensor wouldn't put it into limp mode. You don't have a vtec solenoid, correct? I would be under the PCV valve hose which is the hose on the passenger side of the valve cover. Just making sure somebody didn't swap a y7 block and keep the vtec head.

I believe you have a hanging plug which should be for the IAT sensor which you would need to hook up. I don't know if there are any other wiring changes that would need to be made.

I don`t think it`s a vtec, The car is in hibernation right now so all i can do is look at all the photo`s i have. PM sent.

Every thought of using the LS final gear instead of switching out the 5th?

So to get it back to a y8 i need a block and a vtec head?. Is the ecu a p2p?

Your current ECU is a P2P, which is the vtec ECU. You need a P2E if you want to keep your current motor and get it running correctly.

If you want to swap back to a d16y8 you just need a longblock since you already have all the accessories.

You can also use an SOHC ZC vtec and swap that in.

Update...I bought a slightly used d16y8 engine, now i want to put new plugs and wires, would it be smart to change the cap also? I want to get the most out of this engine, what else can i do to freshen it up?

Thanks

I read that Honda’s like NGK for plugs and wires, wich plug and wire can you suggest?...I got dizzy looking through them all. Is there a cap and rotor that works well with the plugs and wires?

Thanks again for all the help!
