Default Clock Spring issues

I have a 96 dx and since I've owned it the blinkers would never automatically shut off. I recently had some issues with the horn not working. I've narrowed it down to an issue between the wheel and the relay. So I've read the clock spring can cause issues like this but my airbag light isn't on. Can I have issues with the clock spring and the airbag light not be on?

Yes. There are parts inside that turn off the turn signals that has no relationship to the ABS and horn systems.

You can have the horn circuit break but the ABS is still OK. Ground the horn wire where it goes into the stationary part of the clock spring, horn should sound. Remove the air bag and ground the horn wire on the moving part, the horn should beep again. If it doesn't work from the moving side, the clock spring is bad. You can also test continuity through the clock spring with an ohmmeter.

You will need to take it all apart anyway to find the turn signal canceling issue. Read the FSM for these procedures, it is important for handling the air bag safely and also not damaging the clock spring with improper R&R.

Appreciate the help guys. I've tested it through there and I get nothing. I just wanted to confirm that the air bag light and stuff doesn't necessarily have to be on with the other issues. Everything I could find kept saying the airbag light will be on also and mine isn't.

The airbag wiring goes through the clockspring. If the light is not on, then there is not a problem with the airbag. Their could be a problem with the horn.

Your turn signals do not go through the clockspring. They are not related. You may need to replace the signal stalk, which is actually pretty easy.

I have another thread on the horn that I've tested and stuff, so not trying to troubleshoot that issue in this thread. The horn works when cables are ran directly to the steering wheel, so the issue is somewhere from the wheel to the relay. Yes I've replaced the relay. The blinkers I've already replaced the signal stock with a known working one and they still don't work. I mean they work, they just don't automatically click off after turning.

Just in case anyone finds this. A new clock spring did fix my horn issues. There is a piece behind the clock spring that works the blinkers. I replaced that and it fixed that issue.
