Hi, I'm new to the honda community and recently purchased a 2001 civic lx A/T for $400. The car has 300,xxx km. The engine was swapped for a lower mileage d17(unknown mileage) and the transmission is original. The plan was to daily this car until my other rides receives it's heart transplant. Two weeks in and I'm having some strange issues with the transmission. It started mildly slipping about 3 days ago. Nothing serious and the car was still very driveable. It threw code P0730 (incorrect gear ratio). I cleared the code and everything was working fine until the code came back a few hours later. Yesterday, it got much worse and will no longer shift out of second gear,it almost seems to be sticking in neutral on its way to 3rd. I checked the fluid, it was light red with no burning smell and slightly overfilled. I drained a little, and added A/T stop slip. The stop slip seemed to help very little if at all. This morning, I was having trouble in first and pulled the tranny dipstick and smoke was coming out of the hole (not a good sign, I know).

I've google searched and checked the forums bu haven't found my exact issue. The part where clearing the code temporarily fixed the problem is throwing me off.

My question is; Is the transmission salvageable? Will a flush with stop slip help my case? Is there any chance it could just be a malfunctioning shift solenoid, or are my clutches burnt out?

I don\'t want to throw money or parts at the seeing as it was meant to be a temporary daily driver. Any comments or advice would be very helpful.
