Got boned buying an LS transmission, weighing option, need advice.
Buying transmissions is hard, especially when sellers lie about the condition. I picked up a Hydro LS trans for a project I have. Was told it had no issues (grinds/pop-outs)... you see where this is going. I split the case to replace the ISB and seal, but found pretty heavy wear on pretty much everything. What I'm looking for is an example of acceptable (repairable) wear for things like the sleeve teeth and running gear dog teeth. Like how bad can they look before no amount of reconditioning can save them? I'm already planning on needing to replace the hub/slider/synchros for 3-4, as well as 3rd gear on the mainshaft. So if anything else needs to get completely replaced I might be better off starting with a different trans.
Any insight would be helpful. I'll update this thread with pictures of the specific items in question tomorrow.
Re: Got boned buying an LS transmission, weighing option, need advice.
Uploaded pictures to original post. I'm no expert, but after taking the picture this evening it looks like 1-2, and 3-4 sliders need to be replaced and probably the hubs. 3rd gear looks worn beyond using... Can I clean up the dog teeth with a file for 1,2,4,5? and clean up the slider teeth for 5 also?
I'm starting to feel like a different trans is the answer.

thats the keep in the race trailer transmission to throw in at the track if the nice transmission grenades , ***** cooked but surprisingly will prob go through the gears fine with some fresh oil and syncros

That's typical of most B transmissions now, they're all old. If it's a simple daily driver and you're not racing it, replace 3rd gear, 3rd synchro and 1/2 3/4 sliders. If it's going to be raced, replace 2nd as well. Synchrotech sleeves and synchros are available through me (click the link in my signature).

I filed the gear teeth on mine and added some carbon synchros and now mine shifts perfect, most all my gears looked just as bad. The sliders would be the only question on yours
