California emissions vs. Federal emissions for distributor
My local auto parts stores are wanting 150-400 for a new distributor for an 87 accord. So I went online and found one for 50.00 that claimed to replace the td-41k, td-42k, and td-44k. So I bought it. Part # is td-43k.
Upon opening new unit I notice it is slightly different. Specifically, it appears the igniter is internal, so I start enquiring and now am being told that td-43k is a california emissions distributor and I need a td-42k for federal emissions models. The 42k is identical visually. Anyone know what the difference is and why I cant use the CA model on my federal engine.
Thanks
