Default Cel code 43 runs great till the light comes on

My del sol runs great when you first get in and start it but usually between 5 to 10 min of driving and the CEL comes on. When you try and give it gas it misses like crazy till you get to around 3500 rpm. I tried shutting it off and restarting it while I was still going down the road and when it started back the light didn't come on and it ran fine... for about 5 min then same thing. I just change the fuel filter. Could it be the o2 sensor or maybe a weak fuel pump?

Likely the O2 sensor... or you have an exhaust leak between the cylinder head and the O2 sensor creating false readings and thus the fuel trims go wild and it runs like shat.

Yeah i googled the code it just says check fuel system. It had a replacement o2 sensor when I got it. Ill probably start with that thanks. Another thing, since I got the car about a year ago if you get it below half a tank of gas it'll start acting like it's about to run out of gas. Take a corner and it starts to cut out but I know there's gas in it. Could it be related?

You might want to pull the fuel pump out and check the sock.

The DX style combination manifold / cat converter is very prone to crack in the middle above the O2 sensor and cause problems like this.

Is it more than half full now? Like TomCat said, if the pickup "sock" has fallen off, it will starve for gas when the level in the tank is low, and also subject the pump and the fuel filter under the hood to any crud floating around the tank.

You should check the fuel pressure with a gauge.

I have a 93 Del Sol and it came with multiple issues. this code 43 has been there all along with the other issues
I have repaired so many things and now I am down to just the code 43. I have replaced the 02 sensor and I know my exhaust is tight with no leaks
no joy, I recently replaced the fuel pressure regulator and for a couple days I thought I had finally beaten this phantom
but slowly but surely it has returned, now it is no where near as bad as it was so I think I'm getting close. I keep my fuel filter
replaced on a regular basis, way more often than suggested.
reading the post about checking the sock on the pump is interesting, I'm almost on empty so I will be pulling that this weekend
if no joy there I will have to get what I need to test the fuel pressure
Now one very odd fact, if it's raining or cool and the engine temp stays down it may not do it at all

So I pulled the pump out to check the sock and it defiantly needed to be changed. It was nasty to say the least. Went ahead and ordered a new fuel pump but for the mean time I took the boot off and cleaned it out as best I could with some gas. Put it all back together and now its still wanting to hesitate and miss on acceleration but its different. Hard to explain. But the light went off and hasn't come back on yet lol. I'm gonna drive it a little more and see if it'll smooth out any.

I replaced the 02 on mine a while back, didn't fix it. so I pulled the pump this weekend, only thing I found was it was collapsed right at the draw tube. so I worked with the spring or plastic stuff inside the sock to make the sock stay open like it should. I inspected the inside of the tank and it looked good, very clean. I found a bunch of black widow spider egg sacks in the there and 1 active spider so out came the shop vac.
anyway I don't know if this solved my code 43 problems but I will say it runs better than it did before I did this. it may be my imagination but I'm sure my RPM's have dropped while driving at normal speeds
