Default B18CR Valve Springs and retainers.

I'm going to be refreshing the cylinder head on my B18CR while doing the LMA's and valve stem seals. Since the mileage of this engine is unknown I wanted to replace the Valve Springs and retainers.
I'm keeping the stock cams and stock redline. I plan on doing Autocross and HPDE events in the near future.
Should I just go and get Stock Springs and retainers? Are they updated? Or is aftermarket the better way to go.
I've looked at the different Brands and I'm not concerned about price.

Thanks.

Id stick with stock. Heard and seen so may horror stories of retainers breaking and subsequent engine implosions.
Especially those supertech ones. just my .02 from watching others go through engines like candy.
The culprit has been the retainers in about 80% of the time.

Thanks for the help. Are the valve springs from the B18C5 the same for the B18CR?

the honda challenge recipe in our group seems to be supertech dual springs and oem retainers (or supertech steel retainers, NOT titanium). personally id add upgraded valve locks too.

this is what happens when you have titanium retainers and one wears out...

Yeah...I saw your thread and it made me cringe. Hopefully you get it sorted.

Dual Valve springs is a must since both the intake and exhaust Springs are dual in my case from factory.

Any opinions on BC? The also have their own hardened lockers.

Toda? Mugen?

Ferrea looks good too although I am weary of the Titanium Retainers.

Is there a way to tell if the factory parts have been updated? Part number super-session and such?

Thanks.

Try posting to the All Motor / Naturally Aspirated section too, might get some more answers.

If you plan on sticking with the stock cams for a good while, stick to stock.

If you plan on upgrading the cams...I'd recommend Supertech. I run off the shelf retainers and springs paired to Jun III cams, they see 9000+ rpms regularly, no issues yet,

That's good to know. I just don't know if the USDM AND JDM Valve springs are the same

If you're on stock cams and plan on keeping the redline in the mid 8000's, stick with the OEM ITR valve springs and steel retainers.
I refreshed my engine over the summer and the Supertech titanium retainers were destroyed, barely hanging on by just enough material to keep the spring on there. I was also disappointed to find out that one of the Supertech valve springs had cracked in half. This was after 3 seasons, in an H2 B16a engine with an 8800 rpm redline. I'm going to refresh it with stock ITR springs and retainers for this next season and back the redline down to 8500.

I went to the Acura dealership and found that the Intake springs were NLA. Know where to find any?

the valve springs for the USDM B18C5 are available..but you'd have to confirm they will fit on your engine

What Valve springs and retainers would you guys recommend for an endurance race car? were going to be running a 91 CRX si in Champ car and 24 hours of Lemons. I'm new in the honda world and were building a B20 LSVtec with a p72 head. Im leaning toward a set of Crower springs and retainers with a set of Buddy Club spec III+ cams (if we don't run stock cams)

I'm guessing Skunk2 Alpha springs and retainers are kinda frowned upon?
