removing power steering??
Ok, a friend of mine recommended removing my ps belt to gain some more power. Here is the problem, he drives a civic, and I have driven his car. His steering is a bit heavier but, the only time it is really noticeable is when you are not moving and need to turn really sharp.
Here is my thinking, my lude (97SH) is much heavier, so I am thinking that it will be alot worse in my car. He says at first it would be heavy but after you get used to it you won't go back.
So, what do you guys think, anyone done this? how did it drive..what about handling in emergency situations ,aka... evasive manuevers..heh
Does your car respond as well??
Thanks

it's up to you really, if your gonna build your car for full drag racing, i don't see why not. but if your gonna use it for daily driving, be ready for some aches and pain. i have a 88 civic without PS and that **** suckz! hard to turn when your not moving. that **** fukt up my shoulder. IMO, if your removing the PS, why not remove the AC too, backseat...etc I wouldn't do it. I rather get a lighter car to do it. your car should respond well while going the average speed. anything slower and its a bizzitch! evasive manuevers? emerg? gonna be tougher.
thanks guys, I thought it wasn't a good idea..as you know the SH isn't exactly a drag car..Im planning to autox so
w/that idea.

the reason I say evasive manuevers is bcuz I had to dodge a flying 2x4 on the freeway today...and the guy didn't even notice the **** flying off his truck..he is probobly still contemplating why I flipped him off.

?can truckers spell tie tie down?

sorry im on break @work so I don't have time to read what the benefits are, or even what it is....what the hell is manual power steering??
any explanation would be great.

prelude rack will be harder to turn wiouth power steering because it is setup for power steering... like shitty civcs have differnt racks then a power steering civc.

i did it b/c my steering felt pretty loose at highway speeds after i put my lightweight wheels on. i autocross with it, and i do very well. i think it gives a better steering feel
I took the belt off of my SI, i absolutly LOVE the feel, took about two weeks to get used to, but if i bought this car new, it would have been my first mod. Power steering is for pussies, but since you're going to autocross, keep it.
You can just pull the ps belt if you wanna try it out right??
Auto-x season is over here..so I might try it out just to see how it feels
