Key remote not working on Honda Civic 2003
Hello everyone!
Up untill recently, my key remote worked just fine i.e. the signal would react to up to 20m away from the car.
Out of the sudden, it started failing i.e. it would work only from the close vicinity (as in, pressing against the driver's side window and hitting the LOCK/UNLOCK button).
The first thing I did was changing FOB battery but it didn't resolve the issue. I was still able to lock/unlock the car from a very close vicinity.
I also tried doing remote reset by following instructions on Youtube (ignition ON, 4x hitting the LOCK button) and while on the 4th time the locks would react/activate, it still didn't do the trick.
Up untill half an hour ago, I tred once again the remote reset and on the 4th time the locks sounded off (i.e. "clicked") again but this time, the locks did not appear to move/lock/unlock at all (though I could hear the clicking sound).
Now, the remote does not work at all (the little red light on the remote blinks every time but the locks do not react to pressing the button).
Now, there's this little square box (hatch) on top of my control panel (inside the car, in the middle, right under the glass) and buddy of mine suggested it could be the receiver. It was easy to open the cover and while I didn't do anything to it (other than gently pulling it out to see what it actually is) I am kinda worried that somehow (now that my key remote does not work at all) I managed to mess something up.
To summarize, the battery does not appear to be an issue (switched with a new Duracell battery, correct type) so my only guess is, either something with the locking mechanism went wrong OR perhaps the receiver itself might be failing.
Now, some time ago I did have an issue with the driver's side lock not working i.e. not reacting WHILE THE OTHER LOCKS DID. I managed to fix the issue by manually (via entering the key) lockin/unlocking it couple of times (it seemed as if it was stuck or something) which actually solved the issue.
My next option is going to the mechanic as I pretty much ran out of ideas. Before I do that, I thought maybe trying my luck here.
Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:
I managed to reset the remote and it now works but only from the close vicinity (as previously). I suspect it might something to do with the remote receiver..but can't tell for sure.
