Default Motor upgrades

Hey guys thanks for the support. I just recently came across a 96 civic dx sohc non vtec I’m pretty sure non vtec. I wanna build this car up but still use as a daily driver. I have a budget of 5000 would you guys recommend me using this block or swap ? I wanna boost it for sure so I’m going have to get pistons rods etc I not sure what all needs to happen I’m new to this but for many years now I’ve wanted a civic and turbocharged an advice or help parts etc I’d really appriciate it

If you have a budget of $5000, not including the cost of the car, you could do a simple/efficient turbo setup that would work.

I would recommend this turbo kit (do NOT cheap out on turbo components, it will only lead to headaches/more time and money spent later) - GO-AUTOWORKS Street Turbo Kit Honda Civic Acura Integra Del Sol CRX D16 B16 B18

As for the engine, rather than building the D series engine I'd recommend simply buying a GSR (B18C1) engine and transmission, or doing something like an LSVTEC setup (B18B block with a B16 or B18C head), along with a good transmission like a B16, GSR, or ITR (B18C5) transmission. A healthy, stock B series engine will be very happy up to 350WHP. Starting around 400WHP certain components will be getting closer to their breaking point.

Don't forget when going with a turbo, you'll NEED extra things like an upgraded clutch, fuel system parts, Hondata S300 or Neptune for tuning, etc.

It takes some very special deals to get a complete GSR swap and a quality turbo kit like the GO-Autoworks kit suggested by Change EG, not to mention the necessary supporting hardware also mentioned... for $5000.00.

OP, you might consider buying the "D" series kit, Hondata and fuel system upgrades and enjoy that for a while... saving for the GSR swap at a later date. Then you buy it and the clutch... and a "B" series turbo manifold/downpipe and re-tune. This two step plan would only really cost you the manifold/downpipe money... so little is wasted, especially since you can sell off the "D" turbo manifold/downpipe.

If he sold his current running D engine/trans combo I think his budget would be close, but it could just about be done.

a SOLID ls (b18b) swap should run no more than 2k from a reputable source, 1k from CL or some other p2p sale. a moderate turbo kit, 2k as well, (cheaper if you piece it together) with a small, quick spooling turbo and a conservative tune will be a very fun daily driver. take the savings and invest in a light refresh of the motor, a good clutch, and even better tires. you arent going to build AND boost anything for 5k.
