Default Setting timing

How can you set valves if the belt broke without being at TDC. Do i need to pull the head off the block.

Default Re: Setting timing

title says "setting timing" or timing the cam/ignition to the crank, but then you talk about "set[ting] valves" which would normally refer to valve lash. clarify what you're trying to do.

maybe you're trying to check for damaged valves after the belt broke? just lift the rocker assembly off. it doesn't matter where the timing is necessarily. may help to have the cylinder you're pressurizing (checking for leaks) at BDC so it doesn't spin on you.

if you need valves to be open with a timing belt off, just put the crank 90° off TDC in either direction. that'll put all four pistons about mid stroke and clear of the valves.
