Default Timing correct?

HElp. Is this timing belt on the correct way with these settings?
seems like its off.

I started with Cam setting marks all lined up. I forgot to check the Crank tdc prior to adjusting the valves on cyl1. After adjusting cyl1 I rotated the crank 90 deg and noticed that cyl4 valves didnt have the same height?

For the second picture, no they should not be level. Your VX motor has VTEC-E which operates one intake valve MUCH more than the other when VTEC is off. That is what your seeing. From what I remember, one valve is only opened enough to keep fuel from pooling behind it while the other opened fully to promote swirl at low rpm. Then when VTEC engauges, a piston moves over and locks both rockers together moving them the same.

VTEC-E doesn't actually have an extra cam lobe like most VTEC systems.

As for checking your cam timing, the marks should NOT be level with the head. Instead you should follow this image in the lower right corner marked D15Z1. I bet everything will line up correctly then:

The marks on the cam gear should line up with the marks on the timing belt cover. Be sure you're looking at things from the right angle, otherwise you can end up a tooth off (believe me.) Look at it from the top, but also try to visualize it from a straight-on view.

What makes you think the timing is off? Any symptoms other than valve position? Any CEL?

Shouldn't' the TDC timing mark be directly in the "V" notch? Is it just the angle the picture was taken at?

He's got the cam gear alligned with the WRONG marks. Therefore the bottom pulley is off it's mark. That's why I said he needs to follow the picture I posted.

This was the impression I have gotten but haven't yet pulled my crank pulley off to verify.

I thought the white TDC mark on the pulley being in the V site was directly correlated to the mark on the crank gear being in TDC alignment with the mark on the inside of the timing belt cover.

So I would think the OP wouldn't need to pull the crank pulley off to verify mechanical timing. Would just have to align the TDC mark on the pulley to the V and set the Cam Gear properly.

Am I mistaken on what I have thought from previous discussions?

Like I said, I haven't had the opportunity to pull my Crank Pulley off to visually confirm the relation to the Crank gear itself.

You are correct that the V-mark for the large crank pulley is exactly the same as the block arrow for the small crank pulley inside. You can use either one.

The problem is the OP started by lining his cam gear WRONG to check his timing. For the VX, The 7-oclock mark should NOT point at the lower mark on the rear cover. The 3 & 9 o-clock marks should NOT be level with the head. Instead, the 3 & 9 o-clock marks should point at the two arrows molded into the left & right of the rear cover.

If he followed the instructions, his crank pulley mark would be at the V, and his cam pulley marks at 3 & 9 o'clock would point at the two side arrows on the back timing cover!

Id doesn't matter, I don't think he's in this thread anyways.
