Put on the new filter and I have fuel spraying out of the line coming from the tank. Not cross threaded. But when I can't tighten the with the line wrench anymore, it is still not sealed. Do I just need to REALLY torque the hell out of it?

 

 

The line is a flange metal line with a hollow line nut. Inside the filter I see a "crowned" or cone shaped seat. The line should just tighten down on the flange of the line, right? I do notice some of the yellow seal compound Honda uses on the threads and line. That is why I thought I should maybe use some lock-tight. Can't see any seal or washer in the old filter.

 

I use the white pipe compound thread sealer on all of my fuel fittings and have no issues. Not sure if it is a correct application but it works.

 

Anyone else used teflon tape for this? Not sure if that's correct but I've done it before when re-assembling.

 

That's what I used to use all the time. Then I ran out and the liquid thread sealer was cheaper than the tape so I went with that

 

Putting sealant on the threads of a flared connection will not stop leaks. The seal is made between the tapered flared end of the tube and the seat in the fitting. It is metal on metal so the nut needs to be rather tight. Putting oil on the threads will increase the sealing force for a given torque. But mostly the seal surfaces need to be the proper shape and smooth. Try putting the old filter back on, if it doesn't leak you have a bad new filter.
