Default Vtec will not activate question

So heres the situation, i went to the dyno the other day and you could clearly hear the vtec crossover, but on his laptop he couldn't detect vtec. The vtec solenoid is good, it is wired in correctly, it is also getting power. Then recently I researched the problem and it came down the the cluster, with the tac not reading... The previous owner of the car hacked up part of the harness and cut the tach wire from the distributor (the blue with silver dot wire).. I reconnected it and now my tach works. Do you guys think my vtec will pop now? or would that not have anything to do with it?

You should be able to hear to vtec as it kicks in, my gsr spikes as the vtec comes is while on the dyno. If the car has a turbo it’s harder to hear it kick in. I don’t se how the computer ran correctly without a tachometer wire connected? Unless the wire that was disconnected was only for the dash tach

Yeah, its turbo so its harder to notice. But I dont get how I can hear it cross over but vtec is not popping.. I feel like that tach wire allows vtec to know the right time to kick in. Hence why it wasn't working maybe.. How is it supposed to know when to kick in without the computer knowing the rpm. I dont know.
Just sucks because I have to trailer my car to the dyno again not knowing what is going on.

I think he tried several different times just to see if we could get it to kick.
