JDM or USDM Distributor?
Hey, if I pick up a JDM engine, would I be smarter to use the distributor off my USDM H22a with the external coil? What is the best setup? How hard is it to swap a distributor? Thanks in advance.
depends on what its going into......if you have external coil, i would keep it to save the headache if wiring......im thinking there would be some. i had a JDM H22a in my old accord.......the accord and jdm motors had interal coils. i thought i had a distributor problem, so i was going to swap it out and use the external coil, but it was going to be a real pain in the ***. i would go with whatever the car has right now.
Right now I have an external coil on my USDM H22/H23 VTEC.
The JDM engine will have an internal coil. I'm just trying to think if I put on the external coil...how does it hook up? there won't be a plug for it? or is the same plug going into the internal coil dist?

just use the whole distributor from your old motor........then you wont have to worry about any of that. im sure you can sell the other distributor too. theres probably a lot of people out there with JDM h22a's that have distributor problems. i have no doubt that you could use the internal coil distributor, but if i were you i would just take out those 3 bolts and swap them out. take ya 5 minutes, and no headache.

A distributor is that easy to swap? cool!
My question is this okay you can see the external coil on my engine

Is there not A plug that goes to the external coil or something? Or is it a self contained thing? Forgive as I don't have access to my engine to look at it. I am just imagining there is a plug going into the bottom of the coil...

A distributor is insanely easy to install, so just swap over your USDM one and use the USDM engine harness.. that's the easiest way. The distributor is 3 bolts and 5 plug wires, the two connectors and you're done. It's even indexed so it can't be put in upside-down.
