Slow build thread: 2001 AP1
Hey guys. Bored at work and figured I’d start a build thread. It’s going to be a slow process as I want to put in as much research as I can before buying parts. I’ve had a tendency to buy parts on an impulse with my prior cars, leading to me not being 100% happy with the car and frequently changing out the same parts.
The car is a Spa Yellow 2001 AP1 that I bought back in June of 2017. Saw this one with around 42,000 original miles one day while browsing online. Talked to the seller for a few weeks, and after receiving several detailed pictures and having a buddy look at it and test drive it for me, I flew to Dallas and picked it up. Drove back to Arkansas in the middle of the night and loved every minute.
My short-ish term plans are:
Maintenence
Wheels + suspension
Exhaust
OEM extras
I’d like to only buy parts that are easily reversible if I ever plan to sell. Any comments or questions welcomed!

Thanks guys! Decided on tires finally. Pretty set on Firestone Indy 500’s from Tire Rack.
Next I’ve gotta find some SSR lug nuts and pick a good coilover setup.

Finally got my stuff together and ordered some stuff. ST coilovers from another member, and a set of Indy 500’s in AP2 sizing.
waiting on my buddy to give me a go ahead to bring the wheels/tires to mount, balance, and align.
No driveshaft spacers. I’ve read a few threads on s2ki and the general concensus seems to be that they don’t actually prevent any pitting. It was a pretty technical thread that went over my head, but that’s what I gathered lol
Did you have them Brice?

Anyway, if I choose to use my friends shop, things will be on hold for a week or two. Saves a bit of money, and I’ve waited this long anyways so, what’s another half month? lol
I did have them. After lowering the car initially I had an immediate rear end vibration from the driver side. Researched, bought drive shaft spacers, new axle.
Vibration gone
cv joint likes a certain geometry. When you change it by lowering the car, it takes the cv joint of its preferred alignment.

Interesting. From what I’ve gathered, they don’t necessarily prevent the pitting, just changes the location that they pit. I’ll have to do more research since I’ll be waiting a bit to install everything.
did you have an AP1 or AP2?

Once the cv has a groove in it and you change geometry, it’ll vibrate.
You keep saying pitting. I’m not sure what you mean. I’ve never heard that term when referencing an axle or drive shaft.
