[Cost Question] How much did you pay for your exterior respray?
Rather than asking what a full exterior respray might cost, I thought I'd ask what you folks might have paid for yours to get a ballpark.
Luckily I won't need much body work and really just need a strip down, prime and respray. This is a long-term car for me and I don't expect to sell it ever so I'm looking for a high-quality job that will last in the same original color. Any opinions, thoughts?
Re: [Cost Question] How much did you pay for your exterior respray?
If you're in the Pacific North West I'd say 500-8,000 dollars. This is a hard question to answer because shops tend to give wildly different prices. You're best bet would be to find a mom and pops shop that does body work. Most big name shops are really into collision work and don't like doing full paint jobs, because of the work involved. They are like a production line, just replacing panels and repainting/ blending as little as possible. So for me I wanted my car fully sprayed, same as you it needs minimal body work, dings here and there. But nothing major. I got quotes from 3,000 the cheapest to 8,000 the highest. Mind you this was without fixing all those dings I just mentioned. It was strictly for painting the car.
Find a good mom and pops who has good rates. Bring your car to them and see what they would charge to paint it. Make sure you see pictures of their work and/or reviews before you commit. This is the best advice I can give. If you go to a collision type shop they will quote you the highest. Good luck

Chris-
Thanks for the advice, and that was the ballpark I'm budgeting as well (~$5000). Once summer is over, I'm going to start taking it around looking for shops.

it was a long process. Like 4 months. Oh and I had to replace a pile of moldings and rubbers .. all in all probably about 5000 in new moldings, rubbers, fenders, hood and paint
Re: [Cost Question] How much did you pay for your exterior respray?
Spent $300 on all paint and supplies. It's all in the prep work. I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this, but I sanded and primed, then sanded and rattle canned, then sanded and cleared mine. With sanding between every step, and using a hardener clear coat, it turns out really good. Not perfect by any means but it looks a lot better than it did. If you have the patience and the facilities, you can get away with it.
