Honest advice.... read and research on here and other places for about 6 months before buying a single part or touching your car. Then come back with your questions.

Read and research. There’s plenty of info on here if you look.

And why turbo auto?

This is wrong. You can’t really build these autos to hold any kind of power. Best thing you can do is add a tranny cooler to maybe extend the life a bit, but even then at 175hp or more I would bet its life will be drastically reduced.

The reason we suggest reading is because you will find this has been stated already hundreds of times. The first thing you will need to do is convert to manual. Anything else will be a waste of time and money.

Also, aren’t 96-00 auto transmissions notoriously “crap”? I seem to have read that quite a bit. If so, adding extra power would not be a good idea. And whoever told you a turbocharged automatic EJ is, well...

engine management on the obd-2 a/t is the hangup. obd-1 could be chipped, ecu will still work with the auto trans. obd-2 cannot, nor can you use a jumper harness to convert to obd-1, it will not run your transmisson.
