08 civic throwing map sensor code after cleaning in throttle body
Just got this car and the idle was very low. Cleaned the throttle body and idles perfect. Thought all was good then after about 45 min the engine light came on , po1129. Map higher than expected. We cleared the code and it keeps coming back. Every now and then it idles about 1500 and them other times it's back to normal. Any ideas what to do? When I cleaned the throttle body I may have gotten some cleaner, or dirt in the map sensor .. maybe we should just replace it? Thanks for any help!
this happens a lot when people clean their throttle body, they hit the map sensor and it kills it
however, are you sure it wasn't the maf sensor you hit ? those can only be cleaned with special maf sensor fluid
if that's the code it's throwing you can pick up some maf sensor fluid and gently spray it since you can damage it if you touch it, then let it dry for 15 minutes, clear the code, and take it for a spin

We just got the car for my sons girlfriend the night before they left to go to college so we cleaned it about 11;00 that night before they left. I unbolted the air box and stuff to get the throttle body unbolted and cleaned it on the bench. Im not even sure where the maf was!. The map sensor was right on the throttle body if im not mistakin so thats why i was assuming i got crap in there. Im happy to replace it , Just didnt want to just throw parts at it without asking first. The car is 3 hours away now and I wanted to go over next weekend to fix it.
the maf sensor is in the air intake hose so if you didn't spray in there then it's likely the map sensor got damaged
sometimes you'll find these at the junkyard so you can try there for a spare first if you got a junkyard nearby

No junk yards around me..I'm happy to buy a new part though. Gonna go up next weekend and change the map sensor and check for air leaks. Thanks for the help!
