Default p28 ecu questions.

so i picked up a p28 today along with an obd2a to obd1 adapter harness. the guy i bought it from originally had an s300 hondata setup in it. so it has the pin setup rather than the socket.
i dont know if i can shell out the 700 or so canadian dollars for an s300 chip. i am wondering if i am able to convert this ecu to a xenocrome setup instead, as it is quite a bit cheaper. i know the benifits of the hondata, however my budget is not quite enough at the moment to cover the initial cost of it.
my question is, is there a socket i can buy that will sit on the hondata pins that were soldered to the board? or would i have to unsolder the hondata pins, and solder in the socket.

The Hondata s300 is only $495, so I am not sure where you are getting the $700 price from. If you intend to move back to a free-ware type program like Crome... you can use one of the s100 Gen2 chips for your programming. It fits the type of socketing that you have in your ECU.

can you buy an adapter, yes. But it's a special order part (the last time I went looking for one) and it's going to cost 10+x more than having the pin headers replaced by a standard socket (or even ZIF)
find someone that can solder well, have them swap it out in a few minutes.

got it figured, the guy i bought the ecu from messaged me yesterday morning and had found another p28 in his stash, that had was socketed for a chip already. so traded him the one i bought for the one with the socket and chip. also picked up a p75 obd2a ecu so i can get the car started and running well before i switch over to the p28 and mess with the tune.
thanks for the info!
