Just put new head on(rebuilt swap) B16Y7 2000 civic. I had to transplant the old cam sprocket onto the new head. The distributor doesn't line up with the cam and I'm sure the timing is off in it's current state.
How do I set the timing, I've read you set the cam gear to up, and align it with the crank marking below, will that still work even though it's a new head?
Do I just turn it until the distributor will fit back in, bolt it up, and then then line both cam and crank up??
you always set the cam and crank to tdc before putting the head on
since the car hasn't been started you can pull the head and set the crank and cam to tdc and slap the head back on and reuse the head gasket and you'll be fine
you should compression test after installing the head and timing belt before putting everything back together to be sure everything is good before putting it all back together
This is tdc right? I think I set it on the crank before taking the head off. Head is back on now. Can I turn the cam sprocket somehow without it turning the crank?
The cam gear will only attach to the cam one way. In that picture, cylinder 1 is TDC. Spin the cam gear or use a wrench on the cam shaft hex to rotate the cam so the gear shows TDC.
