Default 91 CRX Si Rebuild

Alright so some backstory, in 2007 i bought this 91 CRX Si with a stock Z6 in it. I ripped the front end off as if you notice its got a civic hatchback front end for whatever reason. I received the car back from paint and i deployed so it went into a storage unit. Upon returning back i went into the unit and as i closed the trunk lid i noticed paint came off it about a dime size. The overall prep job had to have been literal ****. I then decided im going to paint it myself but i maybe got 1/2 way through sanding and just realized i ******* HATE body work. Fast forward to now and i have bought .as much OEM replacement exterior pieces as possible and am in the stages of fitting the body up now before i send it off to a place for paint. I just received a sunroof assembly and 2 of the side pieces are rusted out so still hunting for those but i can atleast send the panel off to get painted too. I pulled my DOHC ZC w/ JRSC which has been trust for quite some years. Picked up a GSR Block & Head for $600. Owner claimed it had ARP Headstuds and he had just done a oem rebuild on it. The motor had been sitting in a shed for a year. Luckily he lubed it to hell and there wasnt a ton of clean up. I am building the motor so i figured $600 wasn't a terrible deal. Upon looking inside the exhaust ports i noticed some light rust on the valves so first thing along with getting my body all fitted up was disassemble the engine and take apart the head. Block appears rust free. I know
building the head may be backwards but it is what it is now lol. Better pictures will come but heres some for now.

The power goal is 300-350whp, before anyone mentions some of the thinks im buying for the build engine wise. I am aware i can achieve that with much less...sort of trying to build this hopefully as bulletproof and with the option to expand later

Decided to clean off the valves quick in the event im going to do the valve lapping or will i have the shop do it, i havent decided yet. It may look like some debris is still on the valves. i just gave them a quick shot with getsome 100 lube to prevent any rust from forming while my hands still had some slight grease so when the time comes it should wipe right off

Looking great!

Just a heads up, an ‘88 showed up at my local salvage yard. Let me know if you’re needing anything off of it before it’s crushed!

No unfortunately it does not. It’s an HF model, manual transmission. I took some parts off yesterday and plan on going back today if you can think of anything else.

So i got the new T Support in and the hood latches whoohoo! That being said the left side (passenger) looks good but the right side sits high...need to figure that out. Little tweaking with the rear bumper and shes lined up. Tail lights all line up too BUT the center portion if you look the left side of its studs are not sticking through into the trunk area. IF i push them in on that side to go through the tail light then sits cocked and doesnt line up...odd so ill need to figure that out too. Head will be off to the machine shop tomorrow and some engine goodies have been shipped.

Ok so i messed with the hood some more...this thing is driving me insane. IF i remove the latch assembly from the T-Bar it definitely aligns better...not perfect but better. the pictures below so the gap from the headlight to the hood just using my finger. The up and down of the hood...i COULD get maybe some aerolatch hood pins which i dont really want to but i could suck the driver side down a little more if i used those to solve my gap BUT it wouldnt solve the headlight side to side gap.

Cylinder head has been dropped off at the machine shop. I fully dissasembled the block to be sent off to Jeff @ CNC Werx for the CSS.

There is a little gouge in cylinder 3...i assume its from the folks who put together this motor before i bought it. Scratching it with my finger nail it should machine right out with me going .020" over so fingers crossed on that.

Thanks! I will probably tear into the J1 transmission and inspect that next week along with purchasing an MFactory LSD for it. Running through options to wait and just break it once i have the turbo kit or do it all motor. If i do it all motor...i do have Skunk 2 Tuner 2 cams sooo the wife may have to drive lightly and me get a street tune going just to ensure it doesnt lean out while "braking" in the rings etc.

Bit hard to tell from this photo but ill snag some on monday or tuesday

So i still dont have everything but as i run through things im contemplating breaking the motor in NA and maybe run the GSR cams to held say a stock p72 map with 240cc injectors get the car going. After that then swap in my Skunk Tuner 2's which i am aware will have a bit of overlap and ill have to try and lower that a bit on a dyno or should i just not use them? So many things going on idea wise, still have to convert my engine harness to obd1. I will reloom it with some nicer loom and add the necessary OBD1 plugs. What turbo, where to buy maybe a kit from etc etc all things i still need to tackle.

Thanks, did a little bit tonight, some new rubber on the drivers door and door handle. The fenders, front bumper and hood wont be installed until the engine is in the car. Whatever happened TheZCR? chris just didnt want to pay on it anymore i assume?

Wet sanded the tail lights and then threw some glossy clear on them to give them a nice 'fresh look'. Hard to see old vs new

The lower door molding has the bottom snaps but the metal bar that normally runs along it and then snaps into the body i do not have. In search of a way to attach it as those parts are discontinued. Any ideas welcome

Those wheels are beautiful. Spoon or Rota?
