Default Good Coilovers

Simple question, hoping someone could help me out, wanting some decently priced and good coil overs for my 1990 EF Hatch. It’s the D15 5spd. Front and rear of course. I’m wanting stiffer suspension, but nothing too crazy harsh, and also not trying to go super low. Wanting maybe an inch drop, maybe inch and a half. Thanks

a good coil over really has nothing to do with the brand bud
it all has to do with the spring rate

I have some dna springs in side my 91 Civic SI hatch. It sits pretty good, just eats alot. The timing is retarded by one degree.

So, How do I know what spring rate will be best for me? And I would prefer adjustable. If somebody could link me some to look at and choose from that would be great.

+1 for Progress - the 350/250 combo has been excellent for me so far. Lots of height adjustment, excellent driveability. Definitely firmed up the ride a LOT, but personally don't find it harsh.

It's been said a million times before, but just in case: if you're not going to drop for a full kit, PLEASE don't even think about springs until you've sorted your struts. If you keep the OEM struts then dropping the car will make it ride like garbage - do not learn this the hard way like I did way back when I slapped an Eibach Pro Kit on garbage Monroe struts. That poor wagon rode like a blown out truck. Get struts that can handle a drop - KYB AGX's have a good rep. Tokico Blues (if you can find them for our cars anymore, I haven't been able to) were awesome for me on a ~1" drop with decent springs. If you have piles of money Koni is still considered one of the best options available.

I put some TEIN super street coils on my 91 EF hatch several years ago. Cost was about $1k back then, not sure what it would be today. I've been really happy with them for street and autoX. The SS comes with adjustable ride height & adjustable shock dampening. It definitely rides stiffer than stock, but not enough to where its unbearable. Granted, I drive it once every week or 2.

Stock always rides best. Like daily driver nice. I could't ride in a car that is harsh or dropped for more than 1 day per month just don't like the way they have a lack of dampening pot holes and rouch rides and side streets and driveway turn ins at stores......NO WAY I could dd a ride other than stock. To each their own

OP wants a drop and a stiffer suspension, clearly stated.

Didn’t expect such a large number of responses haha, but I was considering the Progress Technology Series Two’s that were linked earlier. They look like direct bolt in’s and I don’t think I’d have to get a new LCA (Lower Control Arm) I’ve heard some Coilovers require new LCA’s, and I’m not looking for those just yet. But I just put new brakes on it and after I mill it over and decide what coil overs I’m gonna get I wanna get some Enkie RPF1’s then a complete respray of my paint because it’s fading and above the driver rear fender well and near the driver rocker it’s starting to bubble a little bit. But, after I get suspension and tires sorted I’m definitely going B20b w/ GSR Head. I just wanna get all the supporting mods for it first. But any more suggestions are welcome to good coil overs are always welcome. The 350/250’s sound the best for me though.

Also, I know it’s off topic, will 15x7 wheels fit under a civic hatch with no rub or problems like that?

Depends on tire size, offset, camber, how low, etc. In general a +35-45 offset wheel with some 195/50 tires should fit fine with a moderate drop.

Even 205/50's
If your suspension is stock/untouched. Get ready for both rear shock bolts to be seized in the lower control arm bushings. This us usually rectified by replacing the bolts and getting some aftermarket lower rear control arms. You could save the old arms, but it's a huge pain.

Ended up getting 15x7 with 205/50 Nitto Neo Gen tires on Enkei RPF1’s. Only rubs when I take corners SUPER hard, or have 4 large friends in the car, other than that it’s perfect.

Hmmm, I'm surprised. That's usually not a combo that would have any kind of serious rubbing.

I'd look into the old reliable Ground Control / Koni Yellow combination. It's served many very well for years. I just got Fortune 500s w/Swift springs, but not installed, and not sure they'd be in the price range you're looking into (which is??).
