Rear windshield / molding / window weld questions
Edit : working on 1991 honda accord se 4 door
I was hunting / fixing a water leak, now that is done i'm fixing damage caused in repair process
.
I Jared the side rear windshield molding, old plastic clips gave, now the molding on the left and right side of the rear windshield is popped up and out.
it is the chrome metal molding. was using tape to hold it down for the time being, my tape gave way while going 50 mph, pulled right side up more and lost the corner connector that goes to the top / side.
now i'm trying to find a solution to make it look okay and do the job of the window molding.
questions:
the window weld / gasket / glue used to hold the windshield in, is it uv / weather resistant? reworded if i remove the molding will the sun/rain/snow cause a leak or weaken bond of window?
what all does the window molding do?
I know it protects edge of windshield
does that channel need to be empty for water flow / drainage? or does the molding divert the water and help stop it from getting in there?
options i see atm until i get a clear understanding of the moldings job:
1. find junk yard get missing item, try and window weld all the molding in place.
2. bend small pipe to make the missing item, window weld all the molding in place.
3. window weld all the molding in place, fill corner with fiberglass putty paint.
4. cut the side moldings keeping the bottom, replace with some universal.
do they make a universal molding that does not need the window to be cut out to be installed?
I am open to ideas, looking to understand the moldings functions so i can come up with a solution.
Thanks for your help.

no one has no knowledge on:
function of window molding?
uv / element effects on window weld / windshield gasket glue?
if the windshield molding channel needs to not be filled for water drainage?
please, any info or pointing me in right direction would be great.
