So recently my car started squealing VERY LOUD whenever I turn the steering wheel in either direction in park or going very slow. I do not notice this while driving on the highway, but if I go to a drive thru or park my car, it is extremely loud.It almost sounds like the squeak/squeal of a screen door, but way louder.

I recently checked my power steering fluid which was low. I refilled it to the max, however, I am still having the issue. The level in the power steering reservoir did go down a little, but is still above the lowest level necessary.

The power steering belt does not seem to be loose but I have no idea what it could be. I also recently got my back brakes replaced, but they state they checked the front as well and they were fine. So i don't believe it's the brakes. It is coming from the front end driver side.

Does anyone have recommendations? Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

on the power steering belt, on the longest side, in the middle of that side, try to twist it 90 degrees with your index and thumb fingers, it should only twist 90 degrees or so or it's too loose

or the belt could just simply be too old to work properly

 

Thank you. I will try this when I get home. Last time I got an oil changed they mentioned replacing the belt. I didn't know an old belt could make my car sound so horrible. Is there anything else it could possible be?

 

since it's happening when steering is under load it's going to be the belt or it's possible the oring for the high pressure line is bad where it attaches to the pump

 

thank you for your help! i did happen to see what appeared to be a little bit of power steering fluid in my garage. i will look into replacing both, or atleast further reviewing what's going on.

 

so I got the power steering and serpentine belts replaced yesterday and the sound i still there. It's not as bad when making turns going slow speeds but definitely when parking or making sharp turns, i'm thinking now it may be my pump. Here is a picture I took of my pump yesterday (https://imgur.com/a/BMfz0) it looks like the out flow hose had liquid on it as well as below the pump

 

it's not very common but it's possible that high pressure hose is leaking, it looks like it's got fresh fluid on it, wipe it off and see if it comes back

you should replace the two orings that go to the pump, one for the high pressure line and the one coming from the reservoir

if the pump itself shows signs it's been leaking i would use an oring rebuilt kit on it

 

I will try that, someone metioned that on a separate forum, the high pressure line did have fresh fluid because it was still wet. where can I buy these oring kits? Can you provide a link?

 

most parts stores sell a power steering pump rebuild kit, they usually don't stock them but you can order them

there are how-to's on youtube for how to rebuild them it's fairly easy
