alright dudes, my GSR died in the rain the other day, and if you haven't seen my build thread, I'll get you up to speed. Car is a 98 LS with a 95 GSR swapped in. Swap went well back in April, no issues until now. OBD1 P72, Rywire VTEC sub-harness, Skunk2 intake mani and TB, header and exhaust. Just your basic bolt-on engine. A few weeks ago my starter decided to melt all of my grounds to chassis (valve cover, battery, transmission), as well as the power cables to the fuse box and starter. All of that was replaced the same night, and I've been driving since with no issues. Driving to lunch the other day it died in the rain. Cranks, will occasionally fire and run for 5-10 seconds, and dies. So far i have cleaned/tapped/sanded all grounds, tested multiple main relays, two computers. The main relay likes to click rapidly with the key in position ll and the fuel pump runs constantly when the key is on, verified by pulling my pressure gauge off the rail and watching fuel go everywhere. The ECU still won't flash a code, just a solid CEL. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the starter melting my grounds a couple weeks ago, but I replaced batt-chassis, trans-chassis, VC-chassis, and batt-fuse box/starter. The SRS light is on steady, and the brake light comes on when cranking the engine. Hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

I considered that, but I swapped in another known good ecu with the same results. Resetting the ecu won't even clear the cel.
i cant get rid of a bad code 20 but runs fine so tea & sympathy.
if not done already removing and cleaning relevant grounds would be a plan.
as good old fcm says do not simply eyeball them. 8)

Been there, done that. This is definitely a frustrating issue. New harness is in the mail, going to make sure to eliminate that as an issue after the starter melted all the grounds. Everything has been cleaned and sanded and I replaced all the grounds with new cables

Replaced engine harness, repaired fuel pump harness under the rear seat, still won't start. Tested more ECUs/relays, and even an ignition switch, to no avail. Distributor, injectors, ecu are all receiving 12v. I can't figure this thing out. Any more suggestions?

Looks like my ECU is dead. I installed it in our DB8 type r at work, and it's doing the same thing the gsr is doing. Looks like I got my answer.

Replaced the ecu with a chipped P28 from phearable and the car runs like a top now. Apparently the shorted fuel pump connector friend my ECU.

I had a horribly corroded fuel pump connector under the rear seat and it shorted something in the ecu. Once I repaired that the new ecu worked fine upon installation. I burned up two old ecus and went through my entire harness looking for shorts/grounds.
