While driving home the car made a loud sound like a tire blew out and then would not move. The car starts and revs in park and neutral but when I shift into drive and rev the engine, it makes a loud noise like there is broken serpentine belt hitting something, same thing happens in reverse. I check the transmission fluid , service was done less than 2 years ago. I check the form but didn't find anything similar to this, any ideas?

The car is a 2001 EX auto, 204k miles.

FYI -the cause of the problem; snapped CV shaft. had snapped like a toothpick.
