The original trans was slipping out of 2nd gear and was removed and taken for repair. The car was driven with another trans for several months but the ratios were not the same. After reinstalling the original trans it is very hard to shift into reverse and 5th whether running or not. Any ideas??

 

Crappy repair job. Bad reverse/1st gear synchros...

 

Having some difficulty getting into reverse is kinda normal, it's a straight cut gear as opposed to the other helical gears and actually uses a completely separate shaft/gear to operate than the other normal gears.

Having problems with 5th isn't right though, and I agree completely with NV that this sounds like an improper installation/repair. I'd try to get them to look at this trans ASAP so it can be repaired before more synchros/sleeves get chewed up.
